Why Is It So Important To Exfoliate Your Skin in the Winter

Dry skin is especially common in the winter months; when the humidity level outside drops. When the air outside is cold and dry, the water in your skin evaporates more quickly; this makes your skin feel dry and tight, and makes it look flaky and dull. Less moisture in the air can lead to chapped lips, cracked hands, and dry flaky skin.

Many environmental conditions can lead to dry, flaky skin, such as:

  • Cold dry air
  • harsh winds
  • Home or office heat
  • A tasty fire
  • Hot showers and baths
  • Hot drinks
  • Winter clothing
  • The sun

Exfoliation helps replenish skin.

You’ll want to buff away these dead cells so new cells can come in healthier and without obstruction.

Exfoliators improve the effectiveness of moisturizers.

Most people use extra lotion in the winter months, so you’ll want to maximize its power. Achieve this by exfoliating regularly; dead cells block moisture from the layers of live skin cells that actually need it.

Exfoliation also can improve the effectiveness of topical skin treatments, such as serums, which can penetrate deeper once the topmost layer of skin is removed. Long-term benefits of exfoliation can include increased collagen production, resulting in younger-looking skin.

How often should you exfoliate in the colder months?

Every two weeks in warmer months should suffice, but dermatologist recommend you need to up that to once a week in fall and winter, says dermatologist Mary P. Lupo, MD, FAAD. (https://www.aad.org/media/news-releases/evaluate-before-you-exfoliate) Dr. Lupo says that those with oily, thicker skin may need to exfoliate as often as once a day, while those with dry or sensitive skin may need to limit at-home treatments to once or twice a week.

This is where the EXFOLIMATE comes in.

The Exfolimate Face & Body Exfoliator is designed in Australia. It's a gentle tool to exfoliate the face and body and is designed for daily exfoliation and allows your skin to clear naturally, without all the scrubs and peels. It helps transforms the surface of the skin to be smooth and clear.

You use the Exfolimate in a shaving pattern. Use the side with micro-grooves, which help to lift and remove unwanted dead skin cells that cause scaly skin and helps free ingrown hairs.

This exfoliation tool is different than most I have tried, and I didn’t find it to be too rough at all on my skin, plus it did eliminate the need to use body scrubs. It worked on my face for the most part, but I did still need to use a gentle scrub in some harder to reach areas.

The price isn’t outrageous and for those with sensitive skin or allergies to certain products – this may be your ticket to smoother skin!

Acne is more than skin deep. Beyond inflammation, beyond your skin type (oily, dry, rigid), beyond the overproduction of sebum, beyond inflammation triggers, beyond blocked pores and beyond the acne bacteria, there are hidden factors that play a major role in the formation of an “acne environment.
